Dashain: As I remember

Being born in a joint family, festivals for me have always been about gatherings, cheerful noises, relatives, and food. And when it comes to Dashain, it was no different. A little background about my family: my grandparents had seven kids, 5 sons, and 2 daughters of which my father is the youngest child, and me being the youngest child of my parents made me the youngest one in the family.

Lost and Forgotten: Coffee and Rain

Some years ago, I attended a photo exhibition themed “Lost and Forgotten.” The collection was captivating, depicting scenes of children playing with marbles, gathering around Chautaris and ponds, and rolling cycle tires, among others.

Among these images, one stood out to me: a cup of coffee near a window, with what seemed like rain outside. I pondered how this picture fit the theme of “lost and forgotten.” Returning home, I found myself unable to shake that image from my thoughts. I then reflected on a time when I had left work to enjoy a coffee in the rain. To my surprise, I couldn’t recall that memory.

Expansion and Seismic Joints

Expansion Joints

An expansion joint is a joint provided in a building to mitigate the risk of crack formation due to thermal expansion. The joint allows separation of the building that will allow the building to expand and release stresses thereby preventing the release of stresses by cracking. These joints are provided to accommodate the expansion of adjacent building parts and relieve compressive stresses that may otherwise develop.

Historical Earthquakes in Nepal: Overview

Nepal lies in the central part of Himalaya Range, one of the most seismically active zones in the world. Nepal has a long history of devastating earthquake. The reason behind this is the subduction of Indian plate underneath the Eurasian plate. This subduction causes convergence which is absorbed by convergence across the plate boundary resulting different magnitude earthquake. This article provides a brief overview of the destructive earthquakes that have happened in the past.
